Gel Group is pleased to announce that our Managing Director Samantha Cotgrave will be participating in the St Vincent De Paul CEO Sleepout on Thursday 17th June 2010!
This event challenges business and community leaders to experience homelessness first-hand for one night, raise important money, and with fresh insight go on to effect change in social opinions on this serious issue. All money raised goes directly towards the ongoing provision of Vinnies' homeless services across the country.
We invite you to review Sam's profile at: http://www.ceosleepout.org.au/location/ceoprofile.php?ceo=367 where you can chose to make a donation to support the cause.
In WA, Vinnies operates 10 accommodation sites for individuals who are living with a mental illness and are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness and four accommodation sites for street present youth. They provide accommodation for over 70 people every night of the year and place an emphasis on breaking personal cycles of poverty by helping people learn to make better decisions through educational and recreational programs. Their drop in centre has seen over 12,500 street present youth pass through its doors and has had its services used by clients over 76,000 times since it opened in 1998.
Homelessness can occur as a result of job loss, mental illness, relationship breakdown and domestic and family violence.
In Western Australia 62% of homeless people are aged 34 or younger with a significant number, 32%, aged 12 to 18 years with 9% being children under the age of 12.
Sam is looking forward to participating in this event and we will keep you updated on her progress!
